Colombian singer Yeison Jiménez is among six people who have been killed in a plane crash.
The 34-year-old musician – full name Yeison Orlando Jimenez Galeano – was on board a light aircraft which came down shortly after taking off from Paipa Airport in Colombia’s Tundama Province after failing to gain height on Saturday afternoon.
Jiménez – who was on his way to one of his shows – was killed alongside three other passengers, as well as the pilot and co-pilot.
In shocking footage shared online, onlookers were heard screaming that the plane was ‘running out of runway’ as it reached the end of the airstrip and then hit the ground before catching alight.
Just ahead of boarding, the musician shared a post on social media which read: ‘Always humble, because what God gives you he can also take away.’
His photographer Weisman Mora, who also posted a final video of them on the plane just before it took-off, has also been named as one of the victims.
The aircraft had been heading towards the city of Medellin near the town of Marinilla where Jiménez was due to perform that night, with the fatal crash happening around 4pm local time yesterday.
Soon after Colombia’s Civil Aviation Authority released a statement which read: ‘Unfortunately, following the arrival of emergency services and the National Police at the crash site, the deaths of all six occupants of the aircraft have been confirmed.
‘Among the victims is the renowned popular music artist Yeison Jimenez.’
Following the crash, the singer’s stepdaughter Camila Jiménez – whom he adopted after meeting partner and the mother of his two other children Sonia Restrepo – shared online: ‘I love you dad. You don’t know how much it hurts me to see your videos and for you not to be here.’
Many fans have also paid tribute to the singer, with one writing: ‘God have you in his glory. Rest in peace. You were a great man, a brilliant artist and a loving father. I still can’t believe what’s happened.’
Jiménez, who had started performing aged just seven, was a popular música popular artist – a Colombian folk music genre.
Throughout his career he’d written over 70 songs and released eight albums and had been credited with revitalising the genre.
However, the singer had previously spoken about his chilling prediction he would one day die in a plane crash.
‘I start dreaming about a very delicate subject, which is that we were going to have an accident. I see it three times in my accident. I’ve never said this before, nobody knows. Three times, two dreams in Spain,’ he said during a podcast interview.
‘The man shows me everything I had to do. Everything I had to do. I have a plane. I dreamt twice in Spain, on tour in Spain, that I arrive in Olaya, in Medellín, and the captain says to me, “Yer, we’re ready”.’
The other victims of the crash have also since been named as pilot Hernando Torres; Juan Manuel Rodriguez: Oscar Marin; and Jefferson Osorio.
When revealing the names of all the victims publicly, the regional government of Boyaca shared that Jiménez was ‘one of the most representative figures of Colombian popular music’.
It went on to add: ‘United in prayer we stand in solidarity. May God give the families, loved ones and fans faith, strength and hope at these difficult moments.’
The plane is understood to have belonged to Jiménez’s firm YJ Company SAS, according to The Mirror.
At only 34, Jiménez had already become one of the biggest names in Colombian popular music, which blends traditional Mexican ranchera music with Colombian roots.
In 2024, he reached a major career milestone in after selling Bogotá’s Movistar Arena twice, which no other Colombian music artist had ever done.
Jiménez is survived by his wife and three children.
