Britney Spears has announced that she plans to take to stages once more – but has vowed to never again perform in the United States.
The legendary popstar, 44, broke out in the late 1990s and dominated the pop landscape of the Y2K era, becoming one of the biggest selling singers of all time.
After a decade of public scrutiny and press attention, she was placed under a controversial conservatorship after dealing with numerous mental health issues.
The Toxic hitmaker went on hiatus in 2018 to focus on getting out of the conservatorship, which she did in 2021 – hasn’t performed a full live show for almost eight years.
According to an Instagram post she uploaded on Friday morning, however, Britney revealed that she is planning to start performing live music again in the near future.
She began by posting a picture of herself sitting at a piano during a live show many years ago, saying she plans to sell it to her son Jayden, who she gave birth to during her three-year marriage to Kevin Federline.
In the caption, she added: ‘I hope to be sitting on a stool with a red rose in my hair, in a bun, performing with my son, in the UK and Australia, very soon.’
Earlier in her short statement, she revealed that ‘very sensitive reasons’ are what currently stand between her and any future performances in the United States.
She then addressed fan concerns: ‘I dance on Instagram to heal things in my body that people have no idea about. Yup, and it’s embarrassing sometimes. But I walked through the fire to save my life.’
Speaking about Jayden, she added: ‘Sending this piano [in the picture] to my son this year! He’s a huge star and I’m so humbled to be in his presence! God speed, little man.’
It’s not clear what the sensitive reasons are behind Britney’s refusal to perform in the US, but a post from between Christmas and New Year saw her refer to her home country as ‘trash’.
She posted, ‘Have you guys seen the movie Trash? Such a beautiful title, right ‘Murca [America]?’, accompanying her words with a string of laughing emoji.
No plans to perform in the UK and Australia have been made official yet, but her British and Australian fans will no doubt be excited about her potential return.
The last time she performed in the UK was in October 2018, when she headlined the Tower Headland Festival in Blackpool as part of her Piece of Me tour.
This most recent announcement comes after she appeared to call out her own family after seemingly spending Christmas Day without any of them.
‘Merry late Christmas to my beautiful family who have never disrespected me, harmed me, ever done anything completely unacceptable or caused unbelievable trauma, the kind you can’t fix.’
Britney’s sister Jamie-Lynn had recently posted a photograph of her family spending Christmas together, including Britney’s niece Ivey, whom Britney admitted she wanted to ‘hold’ over the festive period.
