Ruth Codd, actress and star of The Celebrity Traitors, has documented a milestone after undergoing a second leg amputation.
Now 29, Ruth had her right leg amputated below the knee at the age of 23 following complications from a serious foot injury from playing football as a teen.
At the end of November this year, the Irish TV star shared that she was recovering at her parents’ home after having surgery to remove her second lower leg.
‘Good news, we’ve had a full-circle moment. I’m back making TikTok content in my parents’ house,’ she posted on social media at the time. ‘Bad news, I can’t do it upstairs, because I’ve just had my second below-knee amputation.’
She added: ‘There’s a lot to unpack for everyone involved.’
Having been wheelchair-bound for several weeks, Ruth has now progressed in her recovery by starting to walk again.
On TikTok, she shared a video of the moment she practised walking on her prosthetic legs, holding onto metal bars in the hospital ward while treading carefully.
Maintaining her usual comedic attitude, she wrote alongside it: ‘When you have no legs left to amputate so you’re wondering what you’re going to do for attention in 2026.’
She further joked: ‘Terrible day for the Wikifeet community #newyearnewlegs.’
Still in the festive spirit, Ruth wore an oversized jumper featuring a cat wearing a Santa hat and holding a glass of wine.
While Ruth has not divulged details of her recovery, she did reply to a follower with humour when they asked why she had the amputation.
On her Instagram Story, she posted a screenshot of a DM reading: ‘Can I ask respectfully why you chose to amputate your other leg?’
She wrote back: ‘I asked the surgeon really nicely and he gave me a two for one deal.’
Speaking previously, the BBC reality star, who was a Faithful in Claudia Winkleman’s twisted game show, admitted she was undergoing the amputation to improve her ‘quality of life’.
While getting tattooed for Under Your Skin with Grace Neutral, she explained: ‘I was on crutches for eight years, and the way I used my crutches, I was kind of always up on my tippy-toes, so the joints in my feet were destroyed.
‘And it’s just kind of the same thing. It’s gone past the point where they can kind of do anything about it.’
‘I’ve already had to have all my toes amputated, so I have no toes,’ she added, joking: ‘So my foot looks like a little hamburger. It looks like a Bratz doll foot.’
Feeling optimistic about having the second amputation, Ruth continued: ‘But with the second one, it’s just the same situation. It was just my quality of life. It’s never going to get any better from this point. They can only kind of stop it from getting worse, and the amount of health problems and stuff I’ve had the last year…
‘I haven’t let it stop me from doing anything, but I feel like it has hindered me and made my ability to do my job more difficult.
‘And I’ve been through it once before, so I think with two prosthetics, I’ll be pretty unstoppable.’
Having initially built a following on TikTok thanks to her disability awareness content, Ruth was launched to mainstream fame in her TV debut in Netflix thriller series The Midnight Club (2022), in which she played Anya.
She went on to score a role in Mike Flanagan’s next horror project as Juno Usher in The Fall of the House of Usher (2023).
In 2025, she joined the likes of Clare Balding, Tom Daley, Kate Garraway, and Sir Stephen Fry in the first celeb edition of The Traitors.
Alas, Ruth’s stint in the game was short, as she was the third player to be murdered by Traitors Alan Carr, Jonathan Ross, and Cat Burns in episode 4, with comedian Alan going on to win the whole thing and take home £87,500 for charity.
