IO Interactive has pushed back its James Bond game 007 First Light, putting it in the same window as Lego Batman.
Rockstar’s delay of GTA 6 from May to November 19, 2026 has eased up the crammed release calendar in the first few months of the year, with several major games having received delays since.
Housemarque’s spiritual successor to Returnal, Saros, was pushed back a month to April 30 recently, and now Hitman developer IO Interactive has moved the goalposts on its James Bond title, 007 First Light.
In a post on X, the developer announced the title will now launch on May 27, 2026 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, two months after its original date of March 27.
‘007 First Light is our most ambitious project to date, and the team has been fully focused on delivering an unforgettable James Bond experience, bringing together breathtaking action, globe-trotting, spycraft, gadgets, car chases, and more,’ the developer wrote.
‘As an independent developer and publisher, this decision allows us to ensure the experience meets the level of quality you players deserve on day one.’
IO Interactive said these extra months will allow the team to ‘further polish the experience’, adding: ‘The game is progressing well and is fully playable from beginning to end, so these additional two months will allow us to further polish and refine the experience, ensuring we deliver the strongest possible version at launch.
‘We’re confident this sets up 007 First Light up for long-term success, and we sincerely appreciate the patience and continued support we’ve received ever since we first revealed the game. We look forward to sharing more updates regarding 007 First Light in early 2026.’
The game depicts Ian Fleming’s character as a spritely 26 year-old, with the title serving as an origin story. The OA actor Patrick Wilson takes on the lead role, while Lenny Kravitz plays the villain.
This new launch date for 007 First Light is just one day after GTA 6’s original May 26 release date, before it was delayed to November. The only other notable title slated for the same window is Lego Batman: Legacy Of The Dark Knight, which launches May 29, 2026.
The most crowded month at the moment is February, with Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, Nioh 3, Romeo Is A Dead Man, Yakuza Kiwami 3, Mario Tennis Fever, Reanimal, and Resident Evil Requiem all set to launch within a couple weeks.
