Liam Payne’s sister Ruth Gibbins has shared an emotional message about grieving her brother, over a year on from his sudden death.
The One Direction star died at the age of 31 on October 16, 2024 after falling from his third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Ruth, who is one of Liam’s two older sisters, has now said that she’s been left heartbroken over the news that part of their school – St Peter’s Collegiate Academy in Wolverhampton – is being demolished.
Taking to her Instagram Story on Friday, she shared a post containing a quote about grieving and wrote: ‘Hearing part of our senior school is being knocked down and having such clear memories of Liam waiting by my locker to ask for money off me all the time.
‘Feels like all of him is being removed from the planet, all the places we’ve been are changing and he’s not here to change with him.’
Ruth also shared a photo of the school corridor from their teenage years, alongside the quote: ‘A thousand tiny losses every single day.’
It comes after Liam’s sisters Nicola Payne and Ruth paid tribute to the late star on the first anniversary of his death, with Ruth admitting she is still ‘paralysed’ by grief daily.
Her emotional statement read: ‘I underestimated grief, woah, did I underestimate it. I am paralysed by it daily.
‘I thought I had felt it before, but I know the losses before you were just intense sadness, you are the loss of my life, the one person who l will miss at every single occasion in my life. I’d taken for granted that my little brother would be there through life.
‘You shouldn’t have died.’
Ruth also shared she had been suffering from a recurring nightmare of being in the One Direction star’s hotel room, but he could not hear her ‘screaming’ for him.
She added: ‘My brain is locked on your last minutes on this earth, the unaccounted minutes, the minutes I will never have the answers to, the minutes that changed everything.’
One Direction stars Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik penned an emotional tribute to their beloved friend after his death, describing Payne as a ‘brother’ whose memory will ‘be treasured forever’.
