Beatles fans love a conspiracy theory, from speculation that Sir Paul McCartney was secretly replaced to ‘McLennon’.
Yes, there is a dedicated group of fans out there who believe John Lennon and Sir Paul were secretly in love, unable to confess it to the world.
Turns out, Alec Baldwin is one such fan.
The Beetlejuice actor, 67, randomly commented on a fan account, CloudBeatles’ post of Lennon and McCartney, 83, singing together in 1969.
In the clip, the pair are laughing and joking as they sing an upbeat rendition of Two of Us into the same microphone at Twickenham Film Studios.
At one point, McCartney playfully breaks into an Elvis impression, meanwhile, George Harrison can be heard offering some harmonies in the background.
The musical duo effortlessly bounce off each other, smiling the entire time, highlighting the magic of the Beatles.
While most commenters shared how they were ‘brothers’, others felt the connection was a little more than that, citing song lyrics as evidence for the romantic bond.
Speculation over the Imagine singer’s sexuality fuelled this rumour, with Lennon once referring to his bandmate as an ‘old estranged fiancé’.
‘I think it’s clear that these two were in love,’ Baldwin declared. ‘And a certain third party is thinking, “I’ve got to put an end to this.”’
That third party is Yoko Ono, Lennon’s wife, who the short clip reveals is watching on and looking a little solemn.
The pair married in 1969, with Lennon leaving the Beatles before releasing his debut solo album with her.
McLennon shippers claim that Ono came between McCartney and Lennon’s relationship, resulting in the band splitting up.
While the multimedia artist has been blamed for the breakup of the beloved band, they were already becoming increasingly fractured.
Lennon’s heroin use, managerial disputes, and creative differences were all part of the storm that tore apart the Fab Four.
On X, Beatles fans were baffled by Baldwin’s comment in support of the ship, branding him a ‘McLennon truther’.
‘Alec Baldwin randomly on the McLennon front lines,’ said moonlightsfolk as HouseOfPrydeX added it was ‘not something I would ever expect.’
S0wingtheseeds joked: ‘Okay who had Alec Baldwin being outed as a mclennon truther on their 2026 bingo card?’
Ohhhh0ney asked the real question, though, pondering if they could ‘convince Alec Baldwin to believe in larry stylinson.’
Larry is a similar ship from the One Direction fanbase, where fans were convinced Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles were secretly in a romantic relationship.
Tomlinson, 34, addressed the conspiracy a few years ago, telling g1: ‘I realised a few years ago that there is nothing I can say, there is nothing I can do to stop those who believe in this conspiracy.
‘I’m sure many people find all these little conspiracies interesting, [and] I’d be lying if I said it didn’t irritate me a little, but it’s the nature of the job. This is what we have now.
‘There’s nothing I can do about it. There’s nothing I can say to stop people from inventing what they want to invent. So be it.’
McCartney has never addressed the McLennon speculation but has often paid tribute to Lennon, who was murdered in 1980.
