The Masked Singer UK is well underway on ITV with incognito celebrities being revealed to the curious public each week.
Hosted by Joel Dommett, the panel, Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan, Maya Jame, Jonathan Ross and this week’s special guest, Freddie Flintoff, had to offer their best guesses at who is under the costume.
The sports day-themed episode saw Monkey Business, Toastie, Arctic Fox, Conkers and Yak put their best foot forward in the hopes of progressing another week.
In the end, the head-to-head came down to Monkey Business and Yak, with the former singing Kesha’s Tik Tok and the latter performing That’s Amore by Dean Martin.
After the sing-off, yet another star dressed up in a bonker’s disguise as they traipsed around the stage, singing and dancing, has been eliminated.
Ultimately, Yak was eliminated and unmasked as Sex Pistols icon John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten), who ended the show singing Olivia Newton-John’s Physical once again.
‘It’s kind of obvious, my voice innit? I didn’t want to give the game away, so I tried everything I could to not come across as a singer. Apparently, it worked,’ he joked after he took the massive bull head off.
The panel threw about plenty of guesses, including Leigh Francis, Jason Mamoa and Harry Hill, but in the end it was Freddie who was on the money with John, with Jonathan Ross quickly backing him up.
There were several hints to lead viewers to the music legend, including the ham and pineapple pizza, which referred to his band Public Image Ltd’s song, Hawaii.
As a ‘Yak of all trades’, he has proven his prowess as a musician, screen star and writer.
Also, we can’t forget John was famously in a Country Life butter advert, where he was chased by cows.
Quipping that he’s glad to be out of the ‘backbreaking’ outfit, he explained his motivation for joining the reality series was to pocket a bit of ‘extra cash’ while recording a new album.
Asked whether it was a career highlight, he added: ‘I hardly think so [laughs]. For me, I hope the fun comes across.
‘Rather than going up there and doing sing along and guessing who I am straight away, I thought, show the other side of me. An absolute funstar. I’m the court jester by nature. It’s just the way it is.’
He follows in the footsteps of Disc Jockey who was One Show host Alex Jones and
