A recently banished star of The Traitors has weighed in on a persistent fan theory about this series’ mysterious family tree.
Since the very first episode, viewers and cast members alike have been trying to decipher the meaning behind the family tree in the foyer.
In Latin, it reads: It reads: ‘Beware whom you trust as your own blood. The sharpest knives are often handed to the table by faithful servants.
‘Among intimate friends lurk the most secret enemies; take care not to let your confidence become the cause of your downfall and agitation.’
Following the news that Judy and Roxy were mother and daughter, and that Ross and Ellie were in a secret relationship, fans have grown convinced that every single player is in hiding some kind of connection to another player.
Fresh from Friday’s banishment, Secret Traitor Fiona Hughes has opened up to Metro about her own thoughts on the theory.
Speaking exclusively to Metro, Fiona said: ‘I think I just glanced the whole time I was there because I wasn’t sure if it made any difference anyway.

‘So I didn’t take much notice of it. And I still haven’t. It was just kind of that bit of paper that’s in the hallway.’
She added: ‘And I wasn’t sure whether or not it was something that I wanted to be involved with because I didn’t want to play my own game and the family tree was a distraction.’
When asked whether she thinks any other players might still be hiding a secret, Fiona said: ‘Possibly. But I’m not sure. And I haven’t given it much brain time either.’
Sharing his own thoughts on the matter, banished Faithful Reece Ward told Metro: ‘Obviously, you’re on high alert anyway because of past situations in previous seasons, and then quite early on, you look for any kind of gain and advantage.
‘So obviously the minute you, you kind of suss out [that] someone in here might know somebody else in here.
‘That’s the power that you don’t want anybody else to have.’
He added: ‘So then you naturally kind of spiral and go down a bit of a rabbit hole looking for all these other connections that you know very much might not be there.’
Last night’s episode saw Fiona become the fifth player to face banishment, following in the footsteps of Faithfuls Judy, Ross and Amanda, and Traitor Hugo.
This came after a dramatic showdown between Fiona and fellow Traitor Rachel Duffy, which led to Fiona dramatically accusing her in front of their fellow players.
On her choice to come after Rachel, Fiona said: ‘Rachel was a strong and formidable woman, and there was no way that I could have beaten Rachel in any other way.
I could see that all of the Faithfuls were never ever going to consider Rachel as a traitor. So my cunning plan spectacularly backfired.’
However, she holds no ill will toward Rachel after her banishment – even passing up on the opportunity to write her name down during their last roundtable together.
‘I would love for Team Traitors to win,’ said Fiona.
‘I think it would be amazing if they did. Stephen is fantastic. And this is Rachel. What a formidable woman.’
Last night’s explosive banishment marks an end to Fiona’s time in the castle, but she’ll go down in the show’s history as its first ever Secret Traitor… and for throwing that grenade, of course.
‘I embraced and enjoyed every single moment in that castle,’ Fiona said.
‘And I don’t regret one thing at all. It was such a wonderful experience. A once-in-a-lifetime experience.’
No regrets at all? Not even outing herself as a Traitor so loudly and dramatically?
‘I just felt as if I didn’t want to be somebody else’s pawn,’ said Fiona of her confrontation with Rachel.
‘I wanted to be master of my own downfall.’
The Traitors returns to BBC One and iPlayer at 8pm on Wednesday.
