TV star Spencer Pratt has vowed to ‘expose the system‘ as he runs for mayor of Los Angeles.
His announcement comes on the one year anniversary of the Palisades Fire, which destroyed his and wife Heidi Montag’s home.
Another wildfire broke out hours later on the other side of the city, as thousands were forced to evacuate. In total, the fires claimed 31 lives and reduced historic buildings to ash.
Heidi’s fans rallied behind the couple, purchasing her 2010 album, Superficial, on iTunes to raise money in their time of need.
At the ‘They Let Us Burn’ demonstration, organised by residents who lost their homes, Spencer, 42, revealed he was running for mayor.
‘Business as usual is a death sentence for Los Angeles,’ he said. ‘And I’m done waiting for someone to take real action. That’s why I am running for mayor.’
The Hills icon shared a picture of himself signing the documents, confirming it’s ‘official’ and his campaign is open.
Spencer continued: ‘But let me be clear, this just isn’t a campaign. This is a mission, and we are going to expose the system.
‘We are going into every dark corner of LA politics and disinfecting the city with our light.’
He posted a video of himself speaking at the rally on Instagram, adding in the caption: ‘I’ve waited a whole year for someone to step up and challenge Karen Bass, but I saw no fighters.
‘Guess I’m gonna have to do this myself. Let’s make LA camera-ready again!’
Friends and neighbours have already rallied behind the Celebrity Big Brother star, with Perez Hilton declaring him ‘my mayor’.
Paris Hilton was among the celebrities to lose their homes, alongside Billy Crystal and Sir Anthony Hopkins.
Yellowstone actress, Wendy Moniz, wrote: ‘Your emotion -born out of being so personally affected – combined with the spitting of FACTS & a passion for change ( the NEED for change) was powerful, inspiring & hopeful to witness🙌.’
‘We love you, Spencer!💪❤️,’ added Linda Thompson, an actress and singer who is the mum of Brody and Brandon Jenner.
The couple were one of the first to share the aftermath of the fire, with Spencer saying he was ‘watching our house burn down on the security cameras’.
He later returned to his home, revealing his Rolls-Royce in tatters, surrounded by rubble and calling it ‘horror movie life’.
Taking to TikTok, he wrote: ‘Please stream any of @heidimontag music on any platforms, it will make a huge difference!’
Heidi’s album Superficial went straight to number one on the iTunes chart, despite being critically panned on release.
