Former Strictly Come Dancing runner-up John Whaite has been rushed to hospital after a near ‘fatal’ car accident.
The 36-year-old, who won the Great British Bake Off in 2012 and reached the Strictly final in 2021, revealed on Wednesday that the car crash saw him ‘splatting onto the road’.
Taking to his Instagram story, John wrote: ‘Last night I got run over (seriously).
‘I rolled up the bonnet damaging it and the windscreen, before splatting onto the road and crawling to the pavement where some angel of a human threw his coat around me and waited with me for an ambulance.’
He continued: ‘The doctors said ‘thank god you’re 16 stone of muscle because it could have been fatal’.

‘Moral of the story: build strong muscle and core strength, and don’t wear black while crossing the road in the dark when an idiot comes speeding without looking…
‘I’ve been scanned and poked and prodded and I’m ok.’
John later added that the collision was ‘sudden and shocking’.
In 2012, John made history by participating in the first same-sex pairing with Johannes Radebe in 2021, reaching the final.
In 2023, he revealed that he would not be appearing on TV again after being ‘blindsided’ by the axe of Steph’s Packed Lunch from Channel 4.
Turning his back on TV, he then joined OnlyFans, and was open about his experience on the platform, explaining that it gave him ‘a sense of complete freedom in my sexuality’ despite initially regretting signing up.
In November, he thanked fans for their support after opening up about his devastating addiction to anabolic steroids.
‘For the past 5 years I’ve let myself down, I haven’t respected my body or my mind, I’ve put body image before my own wellbeing and before time with my family,’ he said in a tearful video on Instagram.
‘Steroids have made me want to end my life. That stops today. Right now.
‘I hope that in sharing this harsh truth, young lads will think very carefully about how they treat their bodies.
‘Steroids have made me want to end my life. That stops now. I choose life. I choose health. I choose love. I choose a simpler life.’
