It’s time to work out yet another The Masked Singer mystery as a fresh group of celebrities takes to the stage.
We’ve already had two bombshell reveals in the first episode back on ITV with Joel Dommett as host for its seventh series.
Panellists Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Maya Jama, and Mo Gilligan were gobsmacked when none other than Alex Jones was revealed as Disc Jockey.
On top of The One Show legend, Anne-Marie was unveiled as Goldfish, having fronted the show’s first-ever house band, No Trout.
But with a whole season to go, things are getting a bit hairy as fans desperately try to work out who Yak is.
After delivering a charming performance on Sunday night’s episode, here are all the clues so far.
What clues are there for Yak’s identity?
Yak seemed to be pointing heavily to a singer, but those vocals threw the panel through a loop, potentially hinting at a comedian.
So what clues did Yak give?
- They’re a ‘Yak of all trades’ but the panel picked up on clues about TV shows, giving us nature or travel documentary vibes.
- Could this be a comedian or singer who is now better known for their on screen appearances?
- One clue suggested to ‘leave your tech behind’, possibly hinting at a ‘no phones’ gig or reconnecting with nature… perhaps at a festival.
- Mo also pointed out a reference to ‘from dusk till dawn’, could that be a nod towards the 1996 film (or the 2014 TV series?)
Who could Yak on The Masked Singer be?
Matt Willis
Davina guessed Busted’s Matt Willis but suggested he was altering his voice to throw them off his scent.
The panellist pointed out he did a documentary with wife Emma about schools, titled Swiped: The School That Banned Smartphones. This would fit with the ‘no tech’ hint.
His bandmate Charlie Simpson won series four, meanwhile, frenemies McFly have also had a winner with Danny Jones in 2024.
However, as Jonathan pointed out, Yak’s vocals aren’t the best…
Ade Edmondson
Another popular name was Ade Edmondson, as suggested by Jonathan who said: ‘What you lack in talent as a singer you more than make up for with gusto.’
Online, Ade proved a popular choice with many simply feeling Yak’s vibe suited the Young Ones icon.
His musical hints could be a nod to the 68-year-old actor’s folk punk band The Bad Shepherds, in which he plays mandolin.
The group even played Glastonbury in 2010, so they’re no stranger to a festival or two.
Other guesses
Mo suggested comedy while Maya went with jokey DJ Fatboy Slim.
Fans similarly have no clue with names like Vic Reeves, Bill Oddie, and Harry Enfield flying.
Only time will tell who’s behind the mask.
The Masked Singer continues Saturday at 7pm on ITV1.
